Love has no reason explores image-making and human perception; a mask-maker’s idea of taking an image of a person, transforming their essence into a mask, which can then be “read” by the body of another person who wears the mask. Born Schwartz followed acting teacher Per Brahe in New York and observes his teaching with masks. The work is based on the artist’s own experiences at one of Per Brahe’s mask courses in New York ten years earlier, where she suddenly began singing opera while reciting a Shakespeare text. Love has no reason is the first video work to be added to the Royal Academy of Arts museum’s historic collection in London.
